"Embrace the sacredness of morning time, for it is the golden hour where minds awaken, connections deepen, and the seeds of knowledge are sown." - Charlotte Mason
We love Treehouse Nature Schoolhouse's approach to memory work! Each scripture we go through here will traced/ copied, cut apart to build sentences, fill in missing words and journal about. Even the 5 year old is finally enjoying memory work and reciting verses!
It may be true that we tend to deprioritize Values Education when the day gets tough, just making sure we get to cover our Core Subjects (individual Math and Language Arts and Social Studies and Science alternately) but when we start our homeschool day with a hymn, our patriotic oath, national anthem, a reading from the Bible and find the connections here… it grows to be so so so rich and the conversations I have with our 5 and 8 year old are priceless!
It looks like a lot but inspite of our Nature Study using Idlewild Company Organic and Word Studies being already filled with Bible lessons, I can’t seem to let go of the good habits and possibilities that the Gentle+Classical Primer prompts, simple good habit readings referenced in Everyday Graces and the beautiful cards open us up to, and I’ve been on and off referring to it along with their Preschool Handicrafts Guide for 4 years now.
We’re elevating the Primer by switching out the Composer and Artist Studies using their Morning Virtues and started off with alternating Kindness and Creativity to work alongside our Bible reading selections of Genesis and Exodus from Simply Charlotte Mason , so we can ease into History and Geography from there.
And I’ve switched out our Bible Story resource to a Catholic Bible as we go through Into the Deep Year1 for our first time to do catechism.
In my senior high school yearbook, the prophecy written there was that I eventually become a CLE Teacher in High School (I kid you not, if I have a batchmate here who can find proof of that, please share! 🤭) and I feel that my work as a homeschool mom fulfills this prophecy in a profound and serendipitous way beyond anything I have imagined.
Ministering to my children in my own way has sparked so much beauty in our home life and I hope this inspires you (rather than intimidate you) to realize that your own way being there for your kids already show them a glimpse of God’s love whether you are homeschooling or not. ✨

It breaks my heart to let it go but I think we still have the chance to revisit Idlewild and Morning Virtues in the coming years. We've trimmed down our selection to just Simply Charlotte Mason's Genesis-Deuteronomy and Brighter Day Press Volume 3 because they're easier to follow and covers Old and New Testament, Ancient History, Hymns, Composers and Artists already.
We're just doing Telling God's Story and Into the Deep once a week for a more Catholic Catechism integration. And Light the Way for Scripture Memory Work and Copywork daily.
