As we approach the end of our homeschool year, it's amazing to look back at everything Roux and Paco have explored, mastered, and experienced. This year was filled with hands-on learning, deep discussions, and plenty of field trips that brought their lessons to life. Here’s a glimpse of what they’ve accomplished across subjects!
✝️ Catholic Studies: Growing in Faith
Their Catholic Online studies focused on Sacraments, giving them a deeper understanding of faith and spiritual formation.
📐 Math: Practical Problem-Solving
From arithmetic and fractions to geometry and data interpretation, math wasn’t just about worksheets—it was about real-world applications. They tackled problem-solving exercises and used percentages and measurements in practical ways, reinforcing concepts through daily experiences.
🔬 Science: Food & Everyday Experiments
Science wasn’t just in books—it was in the kitchen, the lab, and their daily routines. Through Food and Science Club, they studied eggs, dairy, gluten, meats, vegetables, fruits, and fish, understanding their nutritional properties and uses. They also explored the effects of sugar, the properties of magnets, and conducted hands-on experiments during a research lab visit.
📖 Language Arts: Storytelling & Expression
This year’s reading list was rich with classics and adventure. Roux explored Plutarch’s Lives, Shakespeare’s As You Like It and Macbeth, and Choose Your Own Adventure books, developing both oral and written narration skills. Paco strengthened his early reading fluency with Zoey and Sassafras, Geronimo Stilton, and Grammarland, making reading an interactive and engaging experience.
📚 Book Club: Expanding Perspectives
Reading was a shared adventure with The 21 Balloons, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, and The Door in the Wall, sparking meaningful discussions and new ways of thinking.
🌍 Social Studies & History: Living Lessons Through Travel
History came alive this year as they studied the Middle Ages and Philippine history through an incredible lineup of field trips. From the Japanese Embassy to the Mabini and Malvar Shrines, and even visits to the Mega Sardines and Yakult plants, every experience added depth to their understanding. They also engaged in Kidpreneurship and Advocacy courses, learning real-world financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
🇵🇭 Filipino & Philippine Studies: Culture & Language in Action
Filipino literature and culture took center stage with readings of Ibong Adarna, Pag-Ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa, and the complete Tito Dok series. They also explored Filipino proverbs, idioms, and folk stories while learning traditional songs and dances like Ang Pipit and The Tiklos.
🛠️ Practical Life & TLE: Hands-On Learning
Beyond academics, they built real-world skills through Handbook of Forgotten Skills and Life Skills by Swift. Practical experiences included pottery, FORM curriculum projects, and independent life skills, making learning more immersive and applicable.
🚀 Physical Education & Extracurriculars: Scouting & Movement
Paco took up hip-hop dance while both participated in Scouting Corps, with Roux earning her Star Scout rank and Paco becoming a Kab Scout. One of their biggest achievements? Disaster Preparedness Training, certified by the American College of Surgeons, equipping them with essential emergency skills.
🎼 Music & Performing Arts: Instruments & Voice
Music was a key part of their year, with lessons in Sound to Song with Thistle and Biscuits. Roux refined her guitar skills while Paco took on drums, and together, they sang Hello to All the Children of the World and God of All Nations, blending music with cultural appreciation.
Looking back, this homeschool year was a blend of deep learning, real-world connections, and personal growth. Now, as we prepare for our year-end Kids' Gala Presentation, Roux and Paco are excited to showcase their projects—from theater dioramas and financial achievements to science experiments and creative storytelling. We can’t wait to celebrate all they’ve accomplished!
Here’s to another year of learning, curiosity, and discovery! 🎉✨
It's been awhile since we last updated our blog because so much has happened since our last entry. But we've never stopped homeschooling. Reviving the blog is mostly a narration notebook initiative by Roux because she asked to do hers as a typing project instead, so here we are. Just in case you're curious, since June last year we have...

All while turning over Design&Build construction projects in between Pao's gigs and taking over more Coop and Homecoming duties in spite of my (Jasmine here) on and off severe adult onset allergies. We're overwhelmed with gratitude and grief in this season and homeschooling has been keeping us grounded thus far.

Sunday Market Day is also a #homeschool day. Paolo is an expert taga-palengke since he’s the one who cooks and in-charge of meal planning + he used to do this everyday for years when he ran the Tomatokick kitchen in Maginhawa. I, on the other hand, am just fantastic at checklists ☑️
We put teeth in our Oceanography lessons by identifying body parts of fish and mollusks 🐟🦪🦑;
Did Vocabulary by having the kids identify the fruits and vegetables in both English and Filipino 🥦🌶️🥕🌽;
Paco saw what his favorite ube really looks like 🍠
and practiced their Values and Good Habits greeting, thanking and asking the sellers themselves “magandang umaga po, magkano po? Pabili po nito? Salamat po!” 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♂️
Kids saw how some items are more expensive than others, compared prices of the different grains of rice 🍚🌾 with a bit of PH geography since the rice we picked was branded “Mindoro” while Paco did some sensory spelling of the word BIGAS on it.
As we unpacked our pamalengke, we did Math with Paco counting his favorite and most requested mangoes 🥭, while Roux added up our spending for the day 🧾.
This #homeschoolmom came home feeling like a rockstar because the kids had so much fun without realizing we just did school today 🤭 hope you are having a restful Sunday y’all!
